How Do I Stop Being So Sensitive About Everything?
Show Notes Transcript

This is one of the most important and common questions I receive. The more in touch we become with our inner peace, the more jarring the outside world can become. As we begin the journey inward, we can become even more sensitive than we already were.

So what can we do to not be so sensitive? How can we take control of our own mental state and not have it be reliant on external circumstances? How can we develop the unshakable peace and joy that we're all searching for? I'll answer these questions and more as I dive into this topic in today's episode of Path to Peace with Todd Perelmuter.

The path to peace, love, health, and happiness starts here.

0:48
there are many levels of consciousness and awareness, all the way from those lowest levels of conscious awareness, those hate greed, anger, fear at the bottom. And all the way at the top is enlightenment, liberation, Nirvana, a state of pure bliss.

1:19
But I'm going to talk about three levels very specifically, and how they apply to being too sensitive to everything around us.

1:31
The lowest level in these three levels is separateness and isolationism. So this is to say, at the lowest level of conscious awareness, we only see objects as separate than us as separate from each other. We see in this level, greed, acquisition of these objects accumulation using people.

2:08
At the next level up, we seek connection, and relationships. And in this level, is where we're too sensitive to everything that's happening around us.

2:22
We feel so deeply the suffering of others, we are so empathetic and caring. And the noose or cruelty around us is too much to bear. And we let it disturb our inner peace. And it really brings us down.

2:49
At this level, we truly care for others, but in a way that is draining of our energy, and is actually hurting us in a negative way. Because we see the connections and the relationships between everything, we feel others pain as our own.

3:12
At the third stage of conscious awareness, the highest stage we don't just see the relationships and connections, but we understand how they are related, which is to say we understand cause and effect, and how one thing affects another and how what something someone does, causes something else to happen. And then everything that happens becomes understandable.

3:50
We only are angry and confused when we fail to understand human nature. And when we fail to understand this cause and effect.

4:04
Normally, when we see things happen we just see that thing is happening. But at this highest stage of consciousness, we see what caused that thing and we realize that that thing isn't happening in isolation, that this moment is not when that thing started. It started. You could really go back to the Big Bang, but you could at least say basically when a person is born, everything they experience, conditions them and shapes them in so many ways.

4:52
Nobody is making any choice. Free from past conditioning And so when we start to just look and notice how everything has a cause and effect, there is not one single thing on this planet that happens without a cause and effect. It's a law of physics, a law of nature.

5:21
We won't respond to that brief situation, as though it is a huge deal, because we will realize where it came from, which means we will give understanding to it. And when we give understanding to a situation, it doesn't generate discontent, or suffering of any kind. We simply recognize that this thing has to play out because of the causes that lead to it.

6:02
And the more we understand cause and effect, the more we understand how our actions can impact any situation. And we have a higher conscious awareness of how things got here from the past, and how our actions today will lead to consequences in the future.

6:25
And in doing so, we can respond to not just hurtful situations, but any situation in a way that creates a better future for ourselves and others, and wallowing in pain and sadness and pity. And allowing our inner peace to be disturbed, only creates a situation where you are less able to be there for others, to think clearly in a way that can alleviate the suffering of others.

7:10
And instead, we can simply respond with curiosity and openness. So that we can understand those causes and effects. Allow it to play out and use our highest intelligence and awareness to know how to create a future where there is less pain, less suffering, less cruelty, and more love.
