Hello, and welcome to path to peace with Todd Perelmuter. I'm your host Todd Perelmuter. Today, the question I'm going to answer is, how to become spiritual. And the funny thing is, asking how to become spiritual is really like, How can I become human? We are already spiritual beings. And we have this spiritual sense since within us already.

1:16
The simple fact that we even can ask this question says that we, on some level, understand this nature within us. Every single one of us has had moments and glimpses of enlightenment, of inner peace, total wonder and awe. And that is our light of conscious awareness breaking through even momentarily into view.

1:54
And so we have to explore why don't we have this sensation all the time? What is it breaking through? And how can we hold on to it, and experience it in a more lasting way. And the key to becoming spiritual, which in itself is just a term that means so many different things. So let's first define spiritual as really our psychological well being really our total peace, that feeling of pure love, and light, and joy, that is based on no temporary, external situation.

2:34
Just that feeling of gratitude, all the positive emotions. And what we find, when we explore the hinderance to that is that we have these conditioned minds. Ever since birth, we are constantly being conditioned by the media, by friends and families, by society as a whole, to believe certain things to act in certain ways. And to have these similar thought patterns and processes.

3:11
Much of it is needed for civilization to survive and exist with all of these unique people living together. But if we lose focus of our true essence and our true beingness, then it becomes a pathway to unhappiness, and mental issues, and even thought patterns that can lead to physical issues, such as pain, high blood pressure, weakened immune systems, and so many other stress in mind related physical ailments. So the key isn't that we do anything, we have to undo everything. And we have to look at our thought processes.

4:12
We have to really look at our conditioning, look at our belief systems, and not just religious, but how do we view ourselves? Do we feel that we're not good enough? And we always need to either acquire more or change ourselves a little more? And is this lack of contentment, always seeking more? Or something else?

4:43
Is it this lack of contentment, that is getting in the way of that presence and wonder, we feel when we see a beautiful sunset, or the Milky Way in the sky? Or a flower that just blows As our mind, the more we can truly realize how complete and whole we are, how perfect we and this moment are, then we can let go of that constantly thinking mind that is full of incessant, repetitive thoughts, so often negative, and we can be at that piece, we can see the same thing we've seen a million times, and we can see it with newness, and that wonder and beauty.

5:38
And we can feel an every moment, that gratitude for being alive and getting to experience this gift of life, to feel that we are not just a tiny, insignificant part of this universe, not just some mistake, or random chance. But we can feel that we are the universe, we can know, in every moment that we are those particles blasted off from a star, and we are deeply interconnected.

6:19
With this universe, we can feel this spiritual richness that we already have within, we can choose what we focus on. We all have this ability. And through meditation, we nurture and strengthen it. So we can choose to fixate on what we don't have, we can choose to fixate on all the things around us. Or we can remember in each moment, that this life is a miracle, that there are these invisible, inter connected relationships between all things, we can see how everything is related, and connected. And we can feel at peace, and one with everything.

7:17
And in so doing, conflict disappears. Even in the middle of an argument. We can see how deeply connected we are with this other person.

7:32
And we can even in that moment, feel peace and calm. And we can discuss disagreements with love and compassion. And it is amazing what love and compassion can bring to a disagreement. Because both sides sense this energy flow of love between them. And two people can share differing ideas, desires and opinions with zero anger or resentment.

8:16
And it is really that feeling of love. That is the root of all spirituality.

8:24
That is the mysterious force of the universe that binds us together, that holds the universe together.

8:34
And that makes life worth living.

8:38
All we have to do is remove all those layers of the onion. That is our mental conditioning. So we can get to the core of who we are and touch it and experience that pure love.

8:59
And we will feel and know that we are spiritual beings at our very core.
