How to Meditate for Overthinking
Show Notes Transcript

Most of us have a voice in our head that constantly searches for something to obsess about. It scavenges and scavenges endlessly. There is just no seeming endpoint for this thought-chaser. No matter what happens, our mind will try to label, judge and analyze it forever and ever.  Why won't our minds just do what they're told?!

This inner voice disrupts our inner peace and usually creates problems where none existed before. So how do we turn it off? How can use our minds more efficiently and more peaceful? And how can we stop our minds from fixating on negative things? I'll talk about that and more in today's podcast.

The path to peace, love, health, and happiness starts here

0:50
overthinking is the equivalent of

0:56
a person running into your apartment like

1:01
a lunatic and just throwing everything like a tornado and just tearing everything apart? It is the ego or the thinking mind

1:14
being totally chaotic, tearing up everything, looking under every cushion, just making a mess of our mind. This is what overthinking is, Life can be so peaceful and calm and joyful. If it wasn't for that chaos, and in sane

1:39
rampage that goes on. In our mind. When we overthink.

1:45
It can feel so overwhelming when we get stuck in a downward spiral

1:52
of a thought pattern and a trail of thought that we feel compelled to chase.

2:00
And there is a way to break out of that downward spiral into stop that train of thought and like everything else begins by becoming aware of our thinking mind and our thought patterns. As soon as we notice our thoughts, we disconnect from the thoughts that we were identifying with and we become the watcher of those thoughts.

2:31
And immediately, a higher intelligence kicks in a higher consciousness that is aware of the thoughts and who can sit intentionality, into thoughts with intention and consciousness rather than unconscious, automatic, incessant, and often negative and repetitive thoughts.

2:57
Even becoming present for one moment, breaks that train of thought and puts you into a totally new train of thought that you can begin how you wish. You can be present if you wish, you can

3:17
think about what's happening in front of you right now.

3:23
And anything that allows you to be present because it is in presence in this moment, where life happens, where peace and stillness.

3:37
Why?

3:40
Simply observe closely, your surroundings, what your senses are experiencing, what you're hearing, and smelling and turn your attention to these present moment sensations.

3:59
Because everything you experience and everything you do, is also a doorway into the present moment

4:08
and away from overthinking.

4:11
overthinking is the unconscious, habitual reactive mode of the mind.

4:20
And so to practice any kind of mind awareness meditation is essential to

4:30
dissolving that unconscious overthinking, unconscious thinking cannot survive the light of consciousness. So whether you focus on your breath, and when your mind wanders, you notice your thoughts and gently bring attention back to your breath. This is a very powerful way to help prevent and stop overthinking and other highly effective meditation is to just

5:00
Sit with no intention at all. And just allow every thought to come. This sitting without any goal or desire is one of the most powerful meditations we can practice. We simply allow our natural state to be, and we observe it, non judgmentally simply bringing our awareness to our natural state, to our natural thought patterns to our inner emotional states. And we just become aware of whatever is without directing that awareness in any way. It's so powerful, because overthinking comes from a desire to over control every aspect of our lives. And so by simply sitting, not trying to control anything, and just allowing whatever is to be, is essentially the practice of letting go of this need to overanalyze to over process to overthink at our own expense at the expense of our own inner peace.

6:21
So I hope those two meditations really help. Thank you so much for your question. And thank you for listening, peace and love.
